TOOL
Managed Agents
Overview
Claude Managed Agents is Anthropic’s managed infrastructure service for building and deploying cloud-hosted agents at scale. Launched in public beta on April 8, 2026, it provides sandboxed code execution, checkpointing, credential management, scoped permissions, tool orchestration, and end-to-end tracing. Users define agents in natural language or YAML, set guardrails, and Anthropic handles all hosting and infrastructure.
Timeline
- 2026-04-10-AI-Digest — Claude Managed Agents launches in public beta. Priced at $0.08/session-hour on top of standard Claude token rates, with no flat monthly fee. Early adopters include Notion, Rakuten, and Asana. Multi-agent coordination and self-evaluation remain in research preview. Represents Anthropic’s explicit transition from a model company to a platform business — adding a compute-time revenue layer on top of token-based API billing.

Key Developments
-
Platform Revenue Play: Managed Agents introduces a compute-time pricing layer ($0.08/session-hour) distinct from token-based billing — designed to feel like rounding error for enterprise customers already spending on Claude API but scaling into a substantial second revenue stream.
-
Agent Hosting as a Service: By abstracting away state management, tool orchestration, and observability, Managed Agents addresses the core infrastructure pain points of deploying autonomous agents in production.
-
Pre-IPO Product Maturation: Launched alongside Cowork’s exit from research preview and the $30B run rate confirmation, Managed Agents is part of Anthropic’s visible pre-IPO push to demonstrate a multi-product platform business.
