MODEL

Claude

Overview

Claude is Anthropic‘s frontier model family, spanning the public Sonnet and Opus tiers (with Claude Opus 4.7 as the current flagship as of mid-April 2026) and the security-gated Claude Mythos Preview capability tier. Claude is delivered via the Anthropic API, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and consumer Pro/Max subscriptions, and is the model under Claude Code‘s agentic-coding surface.

Timeline

  • 2026-05-08-AI-Digest — Claude is the direct beneficiary of Anthropic‘s xAI Colossus 1 compute lease (222k GPUs, 300+ MW). The capacity routes to inference and serving rather than training: Claude Code 5-hour limits doubled, peak-hour throttling lifted on Pro and Max plans, and Opus API rate limits raised in the same window the deal was announced. CNBC corroborates a ~80× year-over-year run on Claude usage, consistent with serving-capacity scarcity outrunning Anthropic’s own data-centre footprint and the AWS / Google TPU build-out timelines from prior digests.

Key Developments

  1. Colossus 1-Backed Serving Capacity (May 8, 2026): First time a frontier-lab serving stack is publicly backed by a competitor lab’s training cluster. The Pro/Max rate-limit relief that landed alongside the deal makes it concrete: serving-capacity, not training compute, was the binding constraint behind the user-visible degradation pattern in late April.
